How to Use This Web Site

How Can We Help You?

Active Adult SoCal is designed to make searching Active Adult communities in southern California easy and informative. It also explains how as a buyer you can receive a rebate equal to 20% of your real estate agent’s commission, which you can apply to your closing cost.

Search for Homes

From the Home Page of this site click the gold Search button or locate “SEARCH” on the top menu bar. This will open a page with search criteria.

Select communities by area by simply clicking on the coverage map. When you arrive at an Area Page you can pinpoint communities on a map or scroll through all the communities in that area.

You can filter your search, using the Customize Your Search checklist to locate the ideal destination for your next home, including:

One that matches the kind of area you want to be in

One with a price that matches your budget

One that is built to accommodate the lifestyle you want to establish

One that offers the amenities you want, whether a golf course, tennis court, arts & crafts or many other amenities and activities featured in these communities

You can also select Search New Communities if you are interested in viewing only new homes or homes under construction.

Once you’ve selected a community, you can view photos, get price ranges, get specifics (number of bedrooms, etc.) on each model in the complex, inspect amenities, find homes for sale and more.

And remember, at anytime during your search you can Ask Christine, our Active Adult Advisor for help using the site or getting more information on a community or home.

Ditch the Stairs

The benefits of a 55+ Community

The kids are all grown up. The old house seems way too big, too quiet and just too much work. Making a change seems like the natural thing to do.

Well, you are not alone, the number of people 55 and better moving into active-adult communities has skyrocketed, and the trend will continue over the next decade.

55+ communities have been specifically designed for active adults. They offer a choice of single-family homes, condominiums or attached houses—each with many conveniences and upgrades.

You will have your choice of square footage and layout options, so you can count on the perfect amount of space for your new stage of life. There will be no stairs to climb, little or no yard maintenance to worry about or repairs to make.

Added to that are the amenities each community offers which often include a clubhouse, pool, tennis courts, golf course, and many chances to participate in clubs and activities, all within walking distance of your new home. And all contributing to a sense of community with your neighbors.

Most of the communities are situated near shopping, restaurants and medical facilities.

Your Next Move

Whether you’ve lived in your current home for five months or fifty years or somewhere in-between, moving is no joke. It takes work, forethought and courage. Leaving a well-loved and lived-in house is a major step for most people.

Here are a few tips on making it a little easier.

  1. De-clutter. Get rid of the easy things first (broken things, unused items, unloved knickknacks.) And then be ruthless in what you really want to take to your new and probably smaller home.
  2. Sell things you no longer want that still have value.
  3. Pass down beloved items now and watch your family enjoy them.
  4. Ask for help. If you have no friends or family available there are organizations (senior moving managers) that are trained in helping you move. At the very least, hire professional movers.
  5. Before you go, reminisce and share stories and memories of the old place. A lot of life was lived there and it deserves reflection.
  6. Stress the positive aspects of what you’re doing. Moving to a new place for a new time in your life is inspiring, exciting and adventurous. Give yourself credit for this decision and move ahead with confidence and joy.
